OVERVIEW
The Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat (GSS) under the Ministry of Education, administers scholarships for Ghanaian students to study abroad and for international students to study in Ghana under bilateral agreements.
PROGRAMME TYPES
Foreign Scholarships for Ghanaian Students:
- GSS processes and manages scholarships offered by foreign governments to Ghanaian students
- Partner countries include China, India, Cuba, Russia, Egypt, Morocco, and many others
- Applications are typically submitted through GSS
Ghanaian Government Scholarships for Local Studies:
- Bursaries and scholarships for Ghanaian citizens studying at Ghanaian public universities
Bilateral Scholarships for International Students:
- Ghana offers limited placements for international students from African Union and ECOWAS member states

- Application period: typically January–March each year for most foreign scholarship programmes
