Overview
The Chevening Scholarship is the UK Government’s prestigious global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. It is awarded to outstanding emerging leaders from eligible countries and territories around the world to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any UK university. Chevening scholars are selected for their academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to making a positive contribution to their home countries. Scholars join a global network of over 50,000 influential alumni.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, you must generally meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory
- Return to your home country for at least two years after the scholarship has ended
- Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry to a UK master’s programme
- Have at least two years’ (2,800 hours) of work experience
- Apply to three eligible UK university courses and receive an unconditional offer from at least one of them
- Not be a British citizen or dual national with the right of abode in the UK
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online through the official Chevening application system at chevening.org. You will need to create a profile and complete the application form, which includes personal essays on leadership, networking, and your career plan. You must also select up to three eligible UK master’s courses and provide two references. Applications typically open in August and close in early October. After submitting your application, shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews conducted by British Embassies and High Commissions in their home country, usually between February and April. Final results are announced in June, and successful candidates begin their studies in September or October.
