Danish Government Scholarships

Overview

Danish Government Scholarships are awarded by the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science to international students and researchers from countries outside the EU/EEA. These scholarships are intended to support talented individuals in pursuing master’s or PhD studies at Danish universities, as well as to promote Denmark as a study destination and strengthen academic collaboration. The scholarships are administered through the Danish universities, which nominate candidates for consideration.

What’s Included?

Danish Government Scholarship recipients typically receive:

  • Full or partial tuition fee waiver
  • Monthly stipend to cover living expenses (DKK 6,000–10,000 per month approximately)
  • The scholarship covers the full duration of the study programme or a specified period

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Danish Government Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a non-EU/EEA country
  • Have been admitted to or applied for a full degree programme at a Danish university
  • Demonstrate excellent academic performance
  • Be nominated by the relevant Danish university (scholarships are not directly applied for by students; they are university-nominated)

How to Apply

Students do not apply directly to the Danish Government for these scholarships. Instead, the process works as follows:

  • Apply for admission to a Danish university through that university’s admissions process
  • Once admitted, contact the university’s international office to inquire about Danish Government Scholarship nominations
  • The university evaluates applicants and nominates candidates to the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science
  • The Ministry makes the final selection and announces results before the academic year begins
