Overview
The Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS) is a prestigious international scholarship program established by the Chinese government through the Ministry of Education (MOE) to promote educational exchange and cooperation between China and countries around the world. Administered by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the program provides funding for international students, scholars, and teachers to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate (Master’s), and doctoral (PhD) degrees, or to conduct research at top Chinese universities.
The scholarship is offered through several channels: the Chinese embassies in your home country, partner institutions and governments, and directly through Chinese universities. Both full and partial scholarship funding is available depending on the channel, university, and type of scholarship program you apply through. Full scholarship recipients receive comprehensive financial support throughout their study period in China.
What’s Included?
Full Chinese Government Scholarship recipients receive the following benefits:
- Tuition Fee Waiver: All tuition fees are fully covered for the duration of the study programme.
- Monthly Stipend: A monthly living stipend is provided (amounts vary by level — undergraduate: CNY 2,500/month; Master’s: CNY 3,000/month; PhD: CNY 3,500/month).
- Accommodation: Free on-campus accommodation or a monthly housing allowance is provided.
- Medical Insurance: Comprehensive medical insurance coverage during the study period in China.
- One-Time Settling-In Allowance: A one-time allowance upon arrival in China to cover initial settlement expenses.
Note: Partial scholarship options may only cover certain components such as tuition fees or stipend. Benefits vary by scholarship type and institution.
