OVERVIEW
The Ethiopian government, through the Ministry of Education, offers scholarship programmes for Ethiopian nationals and, under bilateral agreements, for international students from partner African and developing countries. Ethiopia also facilitates foreign scholarship offers from partner countries for Ethiopian nationals.
PROGRAMME TYPES
Ethiopian Government Scholarships for Local Students:
- Free tuition at public universities for admitted Ethiopian students (government-sponsored placements)
- Monthly stipend and accommodation at public universities
Bilateral Scholarships for International Students:
- Ethiopia receives scholarship offers from partner countries (China, India, Russia, Turkey, Egypt, etc.) and facilitates applications
- Scholarships for African Union and IGAD member country students under South-South cooperation
Ethiopian Outgoing Scholarships:
- The Ministry of Education processes and administers foreign scholarship placements for Ethiopian nationals at partner institutions abroad

HOW TO APPLY?
- Ethiopian nationals: Register through the Ethiopian Ministry of Education portal (moe.gov.et) for government-sponsored placements

- Application period varies by programme; typically February–May each year
