Overview
The National Scholarship Programme of the Slovak Republic (NSP) is a scholarship programme funded by the Slovak Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth and administered by SAIA (Slovak Academic Information Agency). The programme supports short-term study and research stays (typically 1 to 12 months) in Slovakia for foreign students, PhD students, university teachers, researchers and artists. The goal is to attract talented international academics to Slovak higher education institutions and to strengthen international academic cooperation.
What’s Included?
NSP scholarship benefits include:
- Monthly stipend: students receive €620 per month; PhD students receive €1025,50 per month; university teachers, researchers, and artists receive up to €1 470 per month
- One-time travel allowance of up to €1 500.
- Health insurance for the scholarship period
- The scholarship does not cover tuition fees, but many Slovak public universities do not charge tuition fees for regular degree programmes in Slovak language
Eligibility
To apply for the NSP scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a foreign national (not a Slovak citizen or permanent resident)
- Be enrolled in or have completed a degree at a recognized foreign university
- Provide proof of acceptance or an invitation from a Slovak higher education institution or research institution
- Meet any specific requirements outlined in the relevant call for applications
- Apply as a student, PhD candidate, university teacher, researcher, or artist (artist residency track)
How to Apply
The application is submitted electronically through the SAIA online application system:
- Obtain an invitation or acceptance letter from a Slovak university or research institution
- Log in to the SAIA scholarship portal and complete the online application form
- Upload required documents: CV, academic transcripts, acceptance/invitation from Slovak institution, motivation letter, and language certificate (if applicable)
- Submit the application before the deadline for the relevant call period
